An Exciting Order!

Last week, I received a custom order that was interesting.

A lady has adopted two Chinese children and one is an albino and is very fair.
She asked if I could make each of her children a doll that looks like them.

I instructed her to purchase two particular dolls I found on ebay.
She decided she wanted two dolls for each child and sent me 4.

I received the dolls this week and thought you might enjoy watching the process of turning them into sweet little girls.

Here are before photos.  Notice the difference in the first BRATZ Doll and the Moxie Doll. The face on the Moxie is wider at the bottom, as is the nose. It is a much better choice for an Asian face.

Moxie Girlz Doll - I prefer these for asian faces

Fair-skinned Moxie

Another fair-skinned Moxie

All of the dolls were in fairly good shape.
I stripped off their clothes and removed the heavy makeup.
Then I gave them each a hot bath.

I washed each doll's hair and conditioned it, combing out all the tangles.
Boil washing the hair left it soft and silky and removed the last traces of conditioner.

One of the fair-skinned Moxies had hair that was very dry and brittle.
I cut the ends, and once the hair is dry it may need to be cut even more.

Here are the girls after their baths:

And here they are
sitting on the back porch,
getting a sunbath while their hair dries.

I wonder what they're talking about???

When things settle down a bit
I will begin painting their new faces.

I never know who is going to pop out.
This should be fun!

Working on a Custom Doll

This week I got an order for a custom doll character for a children's book.

Her name is Teeny Tiny Tina the Tooth Fairy by award-winning author, Rosemary R Evans.

I have Tina's face completed and am beginning work on her costume.

I am loving the way she is turning out!

New Batch of Girls

I got a new order of custom dolls this weekend. I thought you might enjoy seeing the process.

The dolls come in to me looking a lot like this:

The first thing I do is remove their clothes and put them in the laundry.

Then, make up is removed,
and each girl gets an alcohol rubdown
and a hot bath.

Lots of conversation goes on in the bubble bath.

The girls are then put in the sun to dry.
Helloooooo!

When they're dry,
they get new makeup!

and a new hairstyle.
The Before and After photos say it all!

Caitlin After

Each doll is given a new, modest outfit to wear.
Then they're listed on Etsy
to find a new forever home.

Here are some of the dolls that have found homes:

You can find dolls currently for sale
in my Etsy shop
at www.thefreckletreedolls.etsy.com

They run $39 to $60
and I do custom orders.

I hope you'll stop by!

Love,
Annie
