Sheila - 30 Miniatures in 30 days

Today I nearly finished Sheila!
Sheila has been working in the garden
and she has a crocheted basket with corn and potatoes -
tomorrow I'll add some carrots and take better photos.

Sheila is dressed in a cute pair of jean overalls,
a mint green teeshirt,
and some Bratz boots.
Her hair is braided and tied with green bands.

30 Miniatures in 30 Days

I've promised myself to do more art this year.
I'm having fun taking watercolor classes.

The other thing I'm working on are miniatures for
my Freckle Farm Dolls.
I wanted to add a little something with each doll
and when I priced miniatures I was shocked
at the prices!
As usual, I said to myself,
"Self!  You can do that!"
So I did.

Last month I made a miniature apple for Allie.
Allie is going to give the apple to her teacher!

I also made a miniature basket of eggs for another doll, Debbie.
She's a little farm girl who is most comfortable
in boots and overalls.

Yesterday I made a miniature Diary and pencil for Sandy,
my latest doll.  Here she is holding her Diary and pencil.

I also made Sandy's Mary Jane shoes, her skirt, and her knit top.

My goal this month is to learn more about working with polymer clay
and other materials to make dollhouse miniatures.

Soooo.... tomorrow I'll start my
"30 Miniatures in 30 Days" challenge.

Stay tuned!

Meet Sandy

Well, I finally made it to the California desert. I'm all moved in and will be here for the next year and a half, if all goes as expected.

Today I finished my first doll since settling in.  Her name is Sandy and she is a brown eyed beauty!

I have dressed Sandy in a hand-knitted sweater, a hand-sewn skirt, and hand-painted Mary Jane shoes.  Her hair is tied up in two pigtails.

I'm working on a sister-doll for Sandy, but have to make some shoe molds before I can finish her.

Jolene is Finished!

I decided to drop the "a" on the end of her name and just call her Jolene.
I think she likes it better!

I finished Jolene's repainted face today.
I did her hair in a loose double-twisted style and dressed her in a hand-crocheted dress with black leggings and boots.

I think she looks adorable!

Working on Jolena, an African American Doll

For those who don't know, I took a very hard fall about two weeks ago and ended up in the Emergency Room. I've not been able to walk or work until yesterday, so haven't gotten much done. But today I felt better and so I worked for a while on a little African American doll I've been wanting to rescue.

Here is a photo of Jolena before her hair wash.  Here hair was VERY matted and took a long time to comb out.

In order to comb out the mats, I soaped up her head.

Once I'd bathed her and combed out her shampooed hair,
I took off her make-up.

When her hair dried tonight,
I spent about an hour giving her a
loose double-twist hair style.

The very back didn't hold the twist well.
Once I have her painted,
I'll try to tighten it up.

I think she is going to be awfully cute!
Now how to dress her ???

Debbie's Been Out Gathering Eggs

Last week, I made a faceless doll for a lady without taking a deposit. I know I should know better, but I guess trust just got the best of me.  Anyway, when it came time to buy the doll, she had been ill and was unable to pay for her.

Sooooo... I put a face and a name on her and boy, did she turn out cute!?

Her name is Debbie, and she's been out on Freckle Farm picking up eggs in the henhouse.  She has home-sewn overalls with an orange hankie in the pocket. She wears repainted boots and has a hand knit beanie.  I crocheted her a basket for her fimo eggs.

What a doll!

Meet Debbie. . .

Help! I've fallen . . .

I'll never laugh at this commercial again!

Last Thursday night, I got up to use the bathroom and fell, landing full force on my back on the footboard of the bed. I couldn't get up off the floor, couldn't breathe, couldn't yell, and even though I was in extreme pain, I chuckled as I thought, "Help! I've fallen and I can't get up!" '

After a time, I made it to the bottom of the stairs and yelled for my roommate, who helped me call a friend for a ride to the hospital. It took three nurses to get me out of the car.

The doctor suspected a lacerated spleen, but luckily after several MRI and Xrays, no permanent damage was found.

However, I've torn some muscles deep in my back and am in extreme pain. So my doll making is slow right now. As soon as I can move a little faster, I'll get back to the workshop.

Stay tuned . . .

Hayden - A Busy Girl

Hayden spent the night with me last night and she's busy painting dolls again.

Her last doll sold within 24 hours.
What a nice surprise!

Here is a photo of Aubrie, her latest doll.
I helped her with the eyebrows but Hayden did the rest.

She's also working on a little "Sister Doll."
The hair is drying now.
I may be able to post it by mid afternoon.
Stay tuned,
or better yet,
visit my Etsy shop at
www.frecklefarmdolls.etsy.com

Hayden returns to school on Tuesday
and
I'm heading to the California desert for a few months,
so I imagine it could be next summer before she paints more dolls.

Good thing!
She could be serious competition!

Nice work, Hayden!

Meet Mia!

I've been working on little Mia for a couple of days. Her hair was frizzy and tangled. I washed and conditioned it, then gave her a boil perm and now it's soft as silk and beautiful curly.

I sewed a turtleneck teeshirt and a new pair of merino wool/cashmere overalls.

Isn't she cute as can be!?

Ethnic Dolls - We Come In All Shades

I try to always have various ethnic dolls in my shop when I can find the Bratz dolls of various skin shades.

If you need a particular doll shade or style of doll, please be sure to convo me on Etsy or here, and I will do my best to make the doll you need.

Here are some ethnic dolls I've had in my shop over the years:
